Project White Eagle

Project White Eagle: Exploring Polish History Through Coins

3 weeks ago Posted by Mike Entertainment, Technology, Work

As a creative UX designer, I have always been interested in how information can be transformed into experiences that feel engaging, intuitive, and meaningful. Project White Eagle became an opportunity to combine product design, historical storytelling, and my own cultural heritage into a single evolving platform.

Growing up as a first generation American in a Polish speaking family, I was always connected to Polish culture, but I never fully understood the depth and complexity of Poland’s history. As I explored Polish numismatics further, I realized coins could act as historical artifacts that documented political change, economics, rulers, wars, and national identity across centuries.

That realization inspired me to create Project White Eagle as more than just a coin database. I wanted to design a modern, organized, and approachable experience that helped people understand Polish history and numismatics together.

Project White Eagle Website

The project currently contains over 3,500 Polish coins along with historical overviews of major eras, ruler information, educational resources, and detailed entries covering specifications, historical context, error varieties, counterfeit detection, and more. A major goal of the platform has been organizing fragmented historical and numismatic information into a system that feels easier to explore and understand for both collectors and newcomers alike.

This is still a very active and ongoing project. I am currently reaching out to museums, institutions, and auction houses throughout Poland in an effort to properly source and license coin imagery for the platform. Visual content is a major next step for the experience, and thousands of coin images will gradually be added to help make the site more engaging, educational, and immersive.

Trust and accuracy are also extremely important parts of the project. One of my core goals is ensuring that information throughout the site is sourced and linked back to references whenever possible so users can better verify and explore the historical information themselves.

AI has also played a major role in helping accelerate research, organization, and development throughout this project. At the same time, I fully recognize that AI systems can sometimes generate inaccurate or fabricated information. Because of this, I am making a strong effort to identify and eliminate those inaccuracies through ongoing source verification, expert review, collector feedback, and user submitted corrections from the community itself.

Project White Eagle Flag an Issue

More than anything, Project White Eagle has helped bring me closer to my own heritage while allowing me to create something educational, interactive, and meaningful for others interested in Polish history and numismatics. It continues to evolve as both a historical resource and a long term design project focused on making complex cultural history easier to explore through thoughtful UX, organization, and storytelling.

I bring over 20 years of experience in creative and technical design and development, with a specialization in user experience and design prototyping. I hold a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Computer Animation and have worked across diverse industries, including automotive, education, software, visual effects, and startups.  I’m also an FAA licensed drone pilot based in Oxford, Michigan.

In recent years, I have actively leveraged emerging technologies like AI, vibe coding, and APIs to enhance my prototypes and projects. My expertise spans app and web-based user interfaces, AR/VR/XR, improving user experiences, microcontrollers, Node.js cloud servers, AWS cloud integration, and innovative storytelling methodologies. Additionally, I have explored physical prototyping tools, such as using cardboard for occlusion surfaces, to improve augmented and virtual reality experiences and spark creative solutions. I am particularly passionate about photogrammetry and 3D model generation, utilizing advanced techniques like Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) and Gaussian splatting to create high-quality, immersive assets from photos and videos.

Collaboration and user-centered design are at the core of my process. I engage with stakeholders and end users to fully understand their goals and challenges, transforming their feedback into personas, journey maps, and user flows that outline an optimal path to success. By focusing on the user, I not only create intuitive and impactful experiences but also uncover overlooked opportunities for improvement, ensuring the final design delivers maximum value.
